Dos and Don'ts in Sending SMS

Healthy Texting

Text Lingo
Filipino texters have developed a special lingo that is not necessarily grammatical. While proper grammar and English usage should always be observed, as insisted by the Department of Education, text lingo can be useful while texting in a hurry.
The following are characters, figures, words and phrases that are most commonly contracted in text messaging. Applicable to English and Filipino messages.

1 - one (Numbers are not usually spelled out.)
2 - two, to, too (Tomorrow becomes 2moro.)
3 - three, tree (The name Trina becomes 3na.)
4 - four, for (Forget becomes 4get.)

attn - attention
b - be, bee (Wana b my txtm8?)
b4 - before
bc - busy
bin - not a good substitute for been (Bin means container.)
bkit - bakit?
btw - by the way

Reminders:
1. One trick is to spell an English word in Filipino in order to save space. (Who becomes hu and these becomes dis.)
2. Some vowels are dropped. (Kailan becomes kelan or simply wen. Have becomes hav.)
3. Avoid word contractions that are hard to recognize. (Ndpndnc is certainly not a good substitute for independence.)
4. Use a smiley to convey an emotion. :-)
5. Use text lingo only when in a hurry. Trina (instead of 3na) would be glad if you take the effort of spelling her name correctly.

geez, "texting" is lyk another language,
hard to understand the characters and acronyms sometimes
